Increase Traffic To Your Site By Adding A Gas Price Widget

Friday, October 24th 2008, by Adam Barger

Gas prices are finally falling like a rock and it's about time. I know a lot of people who are scrambling all over town right now trying to get the best deal on gas. What if rather than drive around looking for the cheapest gas prices they could just visit your website and it would tell them? Wouldn't that be a great way to get visitors to come back to your site at least once a week? With WebStarts you can do this... and in this articles I'll tell you how.

1. Go to WidgetBox.com

Start by going to WidgetBox.com and typing 'Gas Prices' into the search box and then click 'Go'. WidgetBox is a site full of great little mini-applications called widgets that you can add to your website. Once you've performed your search you should see a list of results. There will probably be multiple gas price widgets. You can choose the top one called 'Local Gas Prices'.

2. Customize your gas prices widget

Now that you've clicked on and selected your gas prices widget you can customize the size on the far right side of the page. Some widgets may let you customize the local area settings for the gas prices widget as well. But the one I'm using for this example only allows you to change the size.

3. Copy and past your gas prices widget code onto your WebStarts page.

After you're finished customizing your gas prices widget click on the 'Get Widget' button to generate and display the code for your widget. Next you'll want to click on the 'Copy' button. Clicking on the copy button will save your code to your clipboard and allow you to paste it into your onto your webpage. You can paste it onto your webpage by navigating your way back to your WebStarts page editor clicking 'Insert' and then 'HTML Code'. Paste the gas prices HTML code into the area provided and then click 'OK'. Your gas prices widget will now appear on the page. You can drag and drop your gas prices widget wherever you would like it to appear on your page.

You've now give your website visitors another great reason to come back to your website time and time again. After all... Who doesn't need to fill up their gas tank at least once a month. Be sure to visit WebStarts each day to see more how to articles like this.
